I got a 5-pound bag for about five bucks and it makes so many meals. It takes more time to soak and cook them, but the savings are huge compared to buying cans. Has anyone found a good way to speed up the prep without a pressure cooker?

Just read that chickens can see more colors than we can

I was looking at a book from the library called 'The Chicken Encyclopedia' and it said they have four types of color cones in their eyes, not three like us. They can see ultraviolet light, which is why they might peck at certain things we don't even notice. Has anyone else seen their birds act strange around something that looked plain to you?

Can we talk about the weird thing that happened with my last batch of ranunculus

I got a shipment of ranunculus from my usual supplier last Thursday, and the stems felt a bit softer than normal. On a whim, I put them in a bucket with a capful of vodka mixed into the water, something I read online once. Instead of just opening, they got these crazy, almost ruffled edges and held their shape for a full 10 days. I always thought that vodka trick was just a myth for tulips. Has anyone else had a flower react in a totally new way to a standard trick?

PSA: My cargo bike project runs on old school tool vibes only

My grandpa's tools are still my favorite. Simple steel, no frills. Frame alignment used to be by eye and string. You got a feel for the metal. Now everything is digital. For my cargo bike build, I skip the gadgets. The old ways keep it honest. They just work.
