Spent $25 on a big bag of dried chickpeas instead of canned

I got a 5-pound bag for about five bucks and it makes so many meals. It takes more time to soak and cook them, but the savings are huge compared to buying cans. Has anyone found a good way to speed up the prep without a pressure cooker?

Actually, that price sounds about right for dried. The real win is how much less waste you make without all those cans. For speed, I've had luck with a quick soak where you boil them for a few minutes then let them sit off the heat for an hour. It cuts the usual soak time in half. They still need a good simmer after that, but you can do a huge batch and freeze some for later.

Man, I just don't have that kind of planning ahead in me. Boiling, soaking for an hour, then simmering? That's a whole project. I'll just grab a can when I want beans, it's like two minutes. The waste is just one can, it's not that deep.

My buddy wade_hall has the right idea with the quick soak. I just dump them in a pot before work, and by the time I'm home they're ready to boil. It's maybe five minutes of actual work for a week's worth of beans.
