Campfire ash in high places causes more harm than I knew

Wow, I never really thought about ash doing that much damage. I guess I always figured it was just natural stuff that would break down. Reading how it messes with the water and hurts the fish really got to me. That's why I switched to carrying a small stove too.

TIL that skipping the float test on a big pour wasted a full day

Yeah losing half a day sounds brutal. I get why you test every time now, that's a hard lesson. The shovel method is a solid way to check for sure.

Hot take: The guy down the street thinks engine oil doubles as salad dressing.

Topping off his crankcase with Italian vinaigrette is a bad move. That stuff is just oil and vinegar, not made for engines. Real engine oil has additives to lubricate parts and handle high heat. Vinegar can cause rust inside the motor, and the oil in dressing breaks down too fast. His engine could overheat or seize up from no proper lubrication. He needs to use actual motor oil for his car.

My pastry crust was tough until I learned to handle butter less.

Wait, you were handling the butter a lot before? Like actually kneading it into the flour? That's wild. I always thought the point was to barely mix it in so it stays in little cold bits. If you work it too much it just melts and makes the whole thing greasy, right? My first pie crust was like a hockey puck because I got nervous and overmixed everything.
