Hot take: The guy down the street thinks engine oil doubles as salad dressing.

I saw him topping off his crankcase with what looked like Italian vinaigrette from his kitchen.

My buddy's old tractor ran on bacon grease for a whole summer once.

Topping off his crankcase with Italian vinaigrette is a bad move. That stuff is just oil and vinegar, not made for engines. Real engine oil has additives to lubricate parts and handle high heat. Vinegar can cause rust inside the motor, and the oil in dressing breaks down too fast. His engine could overheat or seize up from no proper lubrication. He needs to use actual motor oil for his car.

My uncle tossed Italian dressing in his crankcase when his oil light came on miles from nowhere. It got him home fine, no engine blow. Imo, in a real emergency, some lube beats dry metal grinding. Vinegar's acidic, but if you drain it fast, rust ain't instant. Old engines are tougher than we give credit for. He swapped in proper oil next day and drove that truck for ages.
