Setting up my garden shed cam nearly opened a backdoor to my Wi-Fi

Last month, I was putting a security camera in my garden shed to watch my tools. I bought a cheap brand online and hooked it up without checking the settings. Turns out, it was using default passwords and an open port that anyone could access. My buddy who knows tech saw it on my network and told me I was basically inviting strangers to peek in. I had to reset it, set a strong password, and close that port in my router settings. Now I always change defaults and check for updates before adding any new gadget to my network. If you're adding smart stuff to your place, don't skip the security steps. It's not worth the risk. A few minutes of setup can save you from a big headache later.

Yikes, that's seriously creepy to think about. Good on your buddy for spotting it. I've totally been lazy with setup on those cheap gadgets too, and it's scary how easy it is to just forget. That open port thing is the kind of detail most people would never even know to look for.
