TIL that skipping the float test on a big pour wasted a full day
I thought we could save time by not checking the slump, but the mix was too wet and we had to redo it. Now I always test first, no matter what. What's your go to check for mix consistency?

Do a quick slump test every time, no exceptions. I got burned once by assuming the mix was good, and it cost me half a day lol. Now I just use the old shovel method. If it holds shape but still flows, it's golden. That saves so much hassle in the long run.

My friend learned that lesson the hard way too, just like @jordan_bell75 said. He skipped a test and the whole pour was wrong, setting his crew back a full day. Now he swears by that simple shovel check before anything gets poured.

Yeah losing half a day sounds brutal. I get why you test every time now, that's a hard lesson. The shovel method is a solid way to check for sure.
