That time our book club's 'democracy' vote completely backfired on us

Did your group try talking through the ranked choices before the vote or just toss names in a hat?

Rant: The lighting in my home workshop was totally wrong for years

You said "fighting shadows on my joinery" and I have to say, I think you might be overthinking this. I have had the same cheap overhead fluorescent fixture in my garage for 30 years and it works fine for everything from picture frames to cabinet doors. If you really need side lighting to see your cuts, maybe the problem is your eyesight and not the lights. All that fussing with special placement just makes the setup more complicated than it needs to be. And quite frankly, if you cannot cut a straight line or see a gap under a basic shop light, angled lights are not going to fix that for you.

Shoutout to the guy who told me chainmail scrubbers were a game changer

Paper towel and salt actually works way better if you use coarse kosher salt and a damp paper towel instead of dry, gives you way more grip. But yeah the chainmail thing is legit, wish I'd tried it sooner.

Overheard a junior tech say an open bond check is optional

Three times in my whole career I’ve seen bond wires that looked perfect but were actually corroded under the lug. That Delta flight story sounds bad but it’s one of those things that happens like once in a blue moon. Honestly half the time it’s just paper pushing to satisfy some auditor.

Our outside counsel kept missing a key deadline for document production.

Honestly, is it bad that I feel personally attacked by that lunch plan email comment? Ngl, my first keyword filter in a messy data dump is usually "please find attached" just so I don't have to scroll through someone's vacation photo thread from 2017. Tbh, that first pass is basically digital dumpster diving - you're just trying to pull out the obvious junk before billing anyone for the privilege of reading it. I once filtered a client's email dump for "pizza" and still ended up with 40 results, which tells you a lot about their office culture but nothing useful about the case. Yeah, the lawyers might roll their eyes at a rough first cut, but trust me, they'll be less cranky than when you hand them 5,000 irrelevant threads about someone's cousin's wedding.
