My old percolator gave up the ghost on a Tuesday morning... right before a 300 mile run.

Man, that's the worst timing. Is there a rule that coffee gear only breaks when you need it most? My own travel mug developed a leak last month that I only discovered mid-highway, so I feel your pain. That old percolator sound had character, like it earned every cup.

Warning: My old sleeping bag almost got me in trouble on a trip to the Olympic Peninsula last week.

Yeah that's the worst feeling lol. Did you try fluffing it up really good before you got in? Sometimes old bags just need a serious shake-out to get the down to move around again. I had a bag do that and I ended up sleeping with my puffy jacket inside the bag, not over it, which helped way more.

Got a nasty shock from a 'dead' panel in an old Philly row house

Ever check for shared neutrals with a multimeter first?

Shoutout to the guy who said to check the original source documents for the moon landing photos

Sometimes those archives are a mess to search though, and @bettyhunt's friend got lucky finding that negative so fast.

A guy at a trade show in Cleveland told me to always run the first part of a new program with the spindle off.

Sounds like overkill for most jobs. I dry run everything in the air anyway, with the spindle on but way above the part. That shows the path just fine. For a simple 2D contour, running with the spindle off is just wasting time. The real insurance is double checking your tool and work offsets before you even hit cycle start.
