My brother told me to skip travel insurance for a quick trip to Vancouver

He said it was a waste of money for a three-day weekend from Seattle. Well, I slipped on a wet trail in Stanley Park and sprained my ankle pretty bad. The urgent care visit and crutches cost me over $400 out of pocket. So much for saving that $35 on the insurance. Has anyone else had a small trip turn expensive from skipping coverage?

Pro tip: I used to cut my tack strips with a hacksaw before a job in a 1920s craftsman house changed my mind.

The old, brittle oak floors were a nightmare and the hacksaw was just vibrating them to pieces. Now I use a small angle grinder with a metal cutting blade, way less vibration and a cleaner cut. What's your go-to for tricky old floors?

Remembering that old Maytag training seminar in Des Moines

They showed us a new diagnostic board that talked back with error codes, not just beeps. Before that, I was just swapping parts based on a hunch. Anyone else miss the simple click of a mechanical timer, even if the new stuff is faster?
