My brother told me to skip travel insurance for a quick trip to Vancouver

He said it was a waste of money for a three-day weekend from Seattle. Well, I slipped on a wet trail in Stanley Park and sprained my ankle pretty bad. The urgent care visit and crutches cost me over $400 out of pocket. So much for saving that $35 on the insurance. Has anyone else had a small trip turn expensive from skipping coverage?

Your brother's advice was worth about as much as that travel insurance would've cost.

Always get the insurance for any trip. I learned that after a friend got food poisoning in Mexico and had a huge hospital bill. It's just not worth the risk to save a few bucks.
