Bought a 'for parts' PS3 that just needed a new thermal paste job...

Spent $40 on it thinking I'd get a cheap fix, but the power supply was actually fried and I didn't have the right tools to test it first. Ended up wasting the cash and now I have a pile of spare parts... What's the best way to check a console's power supply before you buy it?

A customer's offhand comment about his old truck made me rethink diagnostics

He mentioned the engine would only knock when it was under load on a hill, which pointed straight to a rod bearing. I'd been chasing ghosts in the computer for an hour. When's the last time a simple observation from a driver saved you a ton of time?

My uncle told me to always check the ground first, and it saved me yesterday

He's been a mechanic for 30 years and drilled that into my head when I started. Yesterday, a 2017 Civic came in with a no-start and flickering dash lights. I was about to pull the starter when I remembered his advice. I spent 20 minutes cleaning the battery ground cable connection to the chassis, and it fired right up. It's so simple but so easy to overlook when you're chasing bigger problems. How many of you have a similar 'always check this first' rule from a mentor?

A bride in Dallas last month asked for a bouquet with no flowers at all

She wanted a mix of dried grasses, seed pods, and preserved eucalyptus, which was a first for me. I had to source stuff from three different suppliers to get the right textures and colors. Has anyone else gotten more requests for these kinds of arrangements lately?

Heard a guy at the local nursery in Fresno say he never sterilizes his seed-starting mix

He was bragging about his germination rates, but I just read a UC extension article warning about damping-off fungus in untreated media. I lost a whole flat of heirloom tomatoes last spring to that exact issue. Do you guys always sterilize your mix, or is that overkill?
