Drove 40 miles for a shelving unit and ended up reorganizing everything
Last month I found a used steel shelving rack on Craigslist out in Trenton, guy wanted $60. Took my buddy's truck and drove out there, turned out he had three of them in his garage and we got to talking about how he labels every single bin with a date and a list of what's inside. I always just tossed stuff in clear tubs thinking I'd remember what was where, but I never do. He showed me his system where he writes the month and year right on the side with a sharpie, then keeps a spiral notebook on a hook near the door with every shelf numbered. Honestly that notebook thing hit me harder than the shelves did. Now I've got all my Christmas stuff, camping gear, and old paint cans sorted that way. Has anyone else found that keeping a simple paper log works better than trying to rely on your memory or even photos on your phone?
