Took me 2 years to figure out my bird bath was scaring off finches

I kept wondering why goldfinches would never land in my yard even though I have thistle feeders. Turns out my $40 cement bird bath was way too deep for them, like 3 inches of water. I finally switched to a shallow dish with a rock in the middle and now I see 5 or 6 finches just about every morning. Did anyone else have a bird bath depth issue or am I just slow on the uptake?

My air fryer timer knob snapped off mid-cook on a Sunday roast

I was making chicken thighs at 375 and the plastic knob just cracked when I went to adjust the time, leaving me with a little metal nub I can't turn. Has anyone found a good replacement knob that holds up to the heat, or did you just switch to a digital model?

Told myself Slow Horses was overhyped - binged all 3 seasons in a week

I kept seeing everyone rave about Slow Horses on Apple TV but the whole 'grumpy spies in a dead-end office' thing sounded boring to me. Then my brother put on the first episode last Saturday and I couldn't stop. Gary Oldman's character is just so gross and funny, and the pacing is tight with no filler. Has any other show surprised you like that after you thought it wouldn't be your thing?

Fight me on this: Dollar store super glue is way better than the expensive stuff for most repairs

Okay so I keep seeing people in here raving about using name brand glues for their dollar store builds and I'm like... why? I fixed a broken garden gnome with a $1.25 tube of the off-brand stuff from Dollar Tree last month and it's been sitting out in the rain for 3 weeks now and it's still solid. Meanwhile my buddy spent $8 on Gorilla Glue for a cracked flower pot and it failed after one freeze. But I also get that some people say the cheap stuff dries too brittle or takes forever to set. My question is: what's your actual experience with the dollar store super glue vs the expensive kind? Have you had it fail in a way that made you regret going cheap or am I just lucky so far?

Always used grease on cutterhead bearings, but a guy at the parts counter talked me into trying synthetic oil instead

I was real skeptical when he said it'd last longer between changes on my Ellicott 270. Been running it for about 3 months now and I gotta say, the bearings run cooler after 10 hour days. The oil doesn't break down as fast with all the grit we kick up. Has anyone else switched from grease to oil and seen better wear on their swing bearings?

Everyone swears by pigtails for outlets but I'm backing away from that after a job in Phoenix

Was wiring up a new build out in Surprise last month and every single outlet had pigtails from the previous crew. Then the homeowner mentioned they had flickering lights in the living room. Turned out one of the pigtail connections was loose inside the box. Now I just run the line straight to the outlet and use the second screw for the downstream. Has anyone else ditched pigtails after finding a bad connection?

Rant: Just crunched the numbers on my condo fees for 2025

I was looking at my budget for next year and realized my condo fees went up 12% over the last 3 years. That's like $180 more a month now for the same place in Oliver. Does anyone else feel like these increases are getting out of hand or is it just my building?

Hit 720 on my credit score after 2 years of work

I finally cracked 720 after being stuck around 680 for what felt like forever. The thing that pushed me over was asking for a credit limit increase on my oldest card, which dropped my utilization from 34% to 22%. Has anyone else had a small tweak like that make a bigger difference than expected?

Had a hostel worker call me out on my booking routine and now I'm second-guessing everything

I used to just book the cheapest 8-bed dorm on Hostelworld without checking the cancellation policy. This guy at a hostel in Lisbon last summer told me I was throwing money away because those 'non-refundable' deals are usually trap prices that don't save you when plans shift. He said I should aim for places with free cancellation up to 48 hours before, even if the base rate is $3 more. Now I split the difference cheap vs flexible and wonder if I'm overthinking it. Has anyone else gotten roasted by staff for a habit that actually works better than their advice?
