Saw something interesting at the Austin Public Library yesterday

i get what maxm63 is saying about the planned vs actual column, but honestly i dont see the big deal here. libraries are for books not for budgeting bootcamps, feels like theyre trying too hard to be something theyre not. plus how hard is it to just google a budget template and print it yourself for free at home? seems like a waste of shelf space that could go to actual literature or something. idk maybe im just old school but i go to the library to get away from spreadsheets not to pick up more of them.

Had a lightbulb moment at a farmers market baking demo

...and the thing that really gets me about this is how she probably figured that out just from years of trial and error, not from any fancy recipe or book. Stuff like that is gold because it's not the kind of thing you'd ever think to look up online. I've been baking bread for maybe five years on and off, and I never once questioned what happens in those five minutes after kneading. It's almost like a secret that only comes out when you stand there watching someone's hands work. Makes me wonder what other tiny tweaks are just sitting there waiting for someone to mention them.

Got my certification and then found out some scary stats

Found that same stats page when I was studying for my cert and it haunted me for weeks. My uncle used to clean chimneys back in the 80s and he told me about this one job where a family lost their whole roof because they skipped cleaning for like three years. Creosote was so thick you could chip it off with a hammer. I started taking photos of every bad buildup I find now just to show homeowners what theyre dealing with. Makes em think twice about pushing off the next cleaning.

Am I the only one who spent 8 months sending follow up emails at the wrong time?

That 10:30 slot is interesting but what about B2B vs B2C? I run a small ecommerce store and my best times are totally different, usually around 7 PM when people are winding down and actually scrolling their personal inbox. I've tested morning sends and they absolutely tank for us, like way below average open rates. Have you found that the optimal time changes a lot depending on if you're selling to businesses versus regular people, or do you mostly stick to one type?

A homeowner watched me mud for 20 minutes then asked if I could just paint over the tape instead

...and that's exactly the thing, they see tape and paint and think it's like patching a hole in a shirt. But you gotta tell them mud isn't just for looks, it's what keeps the tape from lifting and cracking. I had a guy in Naperville who insisted on the paint-only method because his buddy did it in a rental that "looked fine." I made him a deal, let me do one wall right with mud and one wall his way, then come back in two weeks. He called me after ten days, the paint-only wall had bubbles the size of quarters and the seam was a mess. Sometimes you just have to let reality prove your point (and bill for the fix later).
