Yeah my hot dog costume from 2001 was basically a trash bag with some yellow fabric scraps hot glued on, looked like a sad taco. I think there's something special about the homemade ones even if they look goofy, they've got heart that the store bought stuff just can't match. Your mileage may vary but I'd take a crooked felt hot dog over a perfect polyester one any day.

Respectfully disagree a bit. I think buying a used $180 detector that works fine is smarter than dropping $300+ on something you might not even use long term, for me finding stuff is more about patience and knowing the spot than the price tag of the machine.

My go-to move is buying the cheap version first to "test it out" and then immediately regretting it when the handle flies off mid-flip and my omelet lands on the floor. I've got a graveyard of cruddy kitchen tongs and flimsy spatulas in the back of a drawer that I refuse to throw away out of pure spite. Maybe it's just me but I swear tools know when you're in a rush and pick that exact moment to break.

My 40 dollar cat wig lasted maybe 10 minutes before my dog grabbed it and shook it like it owed him money. I bought it thinking it'd be hilarious for Halloween pictures but instead got a shredded mess and two pets looking at me like I was the idiot. Honestly I don't know what we expected, wigs are basically just expensive fuzzy toys to them. The worst part was finding little bits of fake hair all over the living room for a week. My cat also managed to puke up some of the elastic band which was a real treat to clean up.
