Watched a horse go full gremlin mode during a trim yesterday

I was out at a barn near Fort Collins doing a routine trim on a mare I've seen a dozen times. She's usually pretty chill, but this time she locked her jaw and started grinding her teeth as soon as I touched her front left. Took me 20 minutes to get through because she kept trying to pull her foot back every time I lifted the rasp. Turns out she had a tiny pebble wedged deep in her frog that had been bothering her for who knows how long. Has anyone else dealt with a horse hiding a foot issue like that, or was mine just being dramatic?

Just realized I wasted $200 on a torque wrench I never needed

Bought a fancy digital torque wrench for those big gear terminations on a 480V switchgear install three months ago... turned out the old beam-style one I had was dead on the whole time. Stupid impulse buy when I was already in the supply house rushing. Anyone else ever grab a tool they barely touched and felt like you lit cash on fire?

I kept cutting my fingers trying to get dirt out of tiny grooves on flint scrapers from a site in Texas, so I grabbed a chopstick from my takeout and it worked way better than any brush I tried. Has anyone else found weird tools that work for cleaning artifacts?

Bought a bulk lot of expired film that was stored badly

I grabbed 10 rolls of Portra 160 off Craigslist for $20 from a guy who said they were kept in a cool closet. Turns out that closet was right next to a radiator and every roll came out with heavy color shifts and grain. Anyone else get burned on cheap expired film like this?

Had my game group bail last minute so I tried solo board gaming for the first time

I was all set up for a night of Dune: Imperium last Friday in my basement, everyone texted they were sick or busy within 20 minutes of each other. Figured I'd try the solo mode and honestly it was way more tense than playing with my usual group because I didn't have anyone to blame when I messed up a turn. Anyone else have a game that works better solo than with friends?

Stopped using a steel for a while and came back to it

I learned how to sharpen on a steel back in the late 90s at my first shop in a small town outside Richmond. For years that was the only thing I used, just a straight steel every morning before the rush. Then around 2010 I started messing with whetstones and diamond rods, got really into the whole precision angle thing. I mean, I still think those methods have their place for sure. But last month I pulled out my old steel for a quick touch up on a busy Saturday and honestly, the speed of it surprised me. It's not the same as a full sharpen but for keeping an edge going through a whole lamb breakdown it works fine. Anyone else go back to basics after trying all the new gear?

My dad told me to "buy the cheap tape" for sealing boxes

He said all tape is the same, so I grabbed the $2 rolls at the dollar store and tried to seal 30 moving boxes for my cross-town move in Phoenix. Every single one popped open during the drive and I had to pull over three times to re-pack stuff on the shoulder of the highway.
