He saw my skillet and said, 'That shine means you're scrubbing off the good stuff.' I'd been washing it with soap after every use for years. Has anyone else gotten similar advice about leaving a little bit behind?

A customer's comment about my sausage texture made me adjust my grind

They said the links felt a bit mealy, so I started chilling my pork shoulder and grinder parts in the freezer for 30 minutes before processing. The difference in bind and bite is huge. Anyone else tweak their grind temp after feedback?

My sourdough starter completely died on me last Tuesday

I left it on the counter while I went to visit my sister for the weekend, and our heat kicked on way higher than normal. Came back to a gray, watery mess that smelled like old paint. I tried feeding it twice a day for three days straight, but it never bubbled again. Anyone have a good method for reviving a starter that's been cooked, or is it time to just ask my buddy in Portland for a new scrap of his?

I thought those overnight bus rides across Europe were a terrible idea

My buddy convinced me to take a FlixBus from Berlin to Prague instead of a hostel for a night. I figured I'd be wrecked, but I slept pretty well and saved about 40 euros. Waking up in a new city at 6 AM with the whole day ahead felt like a win. Anyone have other routes where this actually works without being miserable?

Showerthought: A friend told me my ink mixes were 'muddy' and it changed my whole process

I mean, I used to just grab a couple of bottles that looked nice and mix them in a sample vial, maybe a 50/50 split. I thought I was making cool new colors, but a friend in the hobby looked at my swatch cards last year and said, 'Honestly, these all look kinda muddy.' She pointed out that I was mixing inks with totally different properties, like a super wet Pilot ink with a dry, dusty Noodler's one. The pigments or dyes were just fighting each other. So I started keeping a notebook, writing down not just the color names but the flow and dry time of each ink before I even think about mixing. Now I test tiny drops, like 90/10 ratios, and wait a full day to see if anything weird happens. It's slower, but my blues actually look blue now, not gray. Has anyone else had a simple piece of advice that made you stop and rebuild your method from the ground up?

I finally figured out why people keep killing their PS4s with thermal paste

Everyone says to repaste when the fan gets loud, but they glob on way too much. I opened a buddy's console after he did it himself and found paste squeezed onto the motherboard. You only need a pea sized dot, maybe 3mm across, right in the center of the chip. More paste doesn't mean better cooling, it can actually cause overheating by creating air pockets. I've fixed 5 consoles this month alone with this exact issue. Anyone else seen a console die from a simple paste job gone wrong?

Rant: A customer brought in a 1968 Nikon F with a stuck shutter from a flood in New Orleans, and I had to decide between a full strip-down or a targeted fix.

I'm torn because the full teardown is the 'right' way but risks breaking brittle parts, while the targeted fix is faster but might miss hidden corrosion, so what's your rule for water-damaged classics?

My Xbox 360 red ringed right before a big Halo night.

Was in my dorm room last Thursday. Heard the fans go nuts, then three red lights. Tried the towel trick for maybe 20 minutes. No luck. Opened it up, found the thermal paste was basically dust. Cleaned it and reapplied some Arctic Silver. Booted up fine. Anyone know a better fix for the GPU heat sink?
