Just realized I was overwatering my snake plant for 6 months straight
I kept wondering why the leaves were turning yellow and mushy even though I watered it every Sunday like clockwork. Then a friend from work said snake plants basically want to be neglected and need dry soil. I peeked at the roots last week and they were totally rotted. Anyone else kill a plant by following a rigid schedule instead of checking the soil first?

Yep @wesley801, learned that lesson the hard way too. Now I just water when the soil's bone dry.

Isn't it wild how we think being consistent means being right? I've done the same thing with my little herb garden, watering them every evening like I was supposed to, and then wondering why everything got leggy and gross. We get so caught up in the routine we forget to actually look at what's happening. It's like that old saying about doing the same thing and expecting different results, I guess. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just stop and check the dirt before you pour more water on a problem.
