Had a 12-ton beam swing sideways on me last Tuesday when a brake line failed on the crawler. Scariest 4 seconds of my career and now I'm checking every single hydraulic line before we lift anything over 5 tons. Anybody else had a near miss that changed how you prep for lifts?

Almost lost a finger trying to fix a cheap radio with a butter knife

I was in my garage last Tuesday, prying open this old $5 thrift store radio with a butter knife and it slipped, slicing right into my palm and hitting something that bled for an hour. Ended up just taping the cut and tossing the radio since my free hand couldn't hold it steady, anyone else have a cheap tool or hack backfire on them like this?

Wasted $600 on a disability lawyer who did nothing for 8 months

I hired this lawyer in San Diego back in March to help with my SSDI claim, and they basically just told me to wait and did zero actual work. After 8 months of nothing but form letters, I found out they hadn't even submitted my medical records to the judge. Has anyone else had better luck going through a nonprofit instead of paying out of pocket like this?

Had to pick between a power stretcher or knee kicker on a tricky stair job last Thursday

I went with the power stretcher for the main run but used the knee kicker for the last two steps where it curves. Has anyone else found the knee kicker gives better control on tight turns like that?

I was at Game Theory in Raleigh last Saturday and heard this dude say he NEVER sleeves his cards. He claimed it saves him money and space. But I've seen what happens to a well-loved copy of Dominion after 50 plays - those cards get grimy and bent. Has anyone else found that sleeving is worth it long term for preserving your collection?

When it arrived last week, the spine had a nasty color-breaking crease they covered up with the lighting. I tried to return it but the seller claimed it was "shipping damage" and I was out the money plus shipping. Anyone else get burned by misleading photos of variants on auction sites?

TIL you can unclog a shower drain with a shop vac in like 5 minutes

Last month I had a slow drain in my downstairs bathroom. Tried the baking soda and vinegar thing twice and it barely helped. Eventually I grabbed my shop vac, sealed the nozzle over the drain with a wet rag, and sucked for maybe 30 seconds. Heard a gurgle and then a wad of hair and soap gunk came right out. Has anyone else used this method or do you all stick with snakes?
