Took me 4 years to realize packing cubes are actually worth it

and the real game changer is getting the compression ones. i fought it for years thinking it was just rolling your clothes differently. then my girlfriend threw a set in my bag for a work trip and i came back a believer. now i have four different sizes and i actually get annoyed if i have to pack without them.

Tried calibrating an altimeter with a known bad test set just to see what would happen

Had a buddy borrow a test set from another hangar, didn't check the cert date. He ran an altimeter check on a King Air and the thing was off by 80 feet at 10,000 feet. Got flagged during a ramp inspection three weeks later. FAA made him redo every static system on that aircraft for the last six months. Took him all weekend and cost the shop a ton in labor. Never again.

Blew $300 on a reman injector that was DOA

Had the same thing with a reman alternator last year. Looked perfect, died in 2 days. Only thing that worked was buying OEM and eating the extra cost.

That old guy at the shop swore by half-blind dovetails on everything

Wait, are you telling me I wasted all those years swearing at half-blind dovetails for nothing? I still remember my first attempt looking like a beaver chewed through a 2x4 with a hangover. Now I can't go back either, even though my shop floor is still covered in the sawdust of my failures. What's your go-to tip for making the pins and tails line up without losing your mind?

That moment I learned door hangers need to be level, not just tight

Ah man, that's rough, sorry that happened.
