Am I the only one who sees guys torquing head bolts dry?

My uncle ran a diesel shop in Spokane for 30 years. He always used a thin coat of straight 30-weight oil on head bolts and never had a comeback. The key is being consistent so the clamping force is even. I've done it that way on dozens of motors without issue.

Stopped at that big truck stop off I-80 in Nebraska and saw a weird sign about 'geoengineering'.

My buddy Mike saw those same signs last year and got weirded out by the sky over Wyoming.

I used to think soap was the enemy until my bacon stuck last Tuesday.

My grandma's cast iron skillet is probably 60 years old and has never seen soap. That thing is slick as glass. The gummy layer you had sounds like the seasoning wasn't fully polymerized, it was just built up grease. A little salt and a good hard scrub with a dry towel after each use should take care of that without needing soap. I'm not saying soap will ruin it, but it's just not necessary if you build up the seasoning right.

PSA: The local gallery show in Austin changed my mind about using new hardware.

Honestly feels like overthinking it to me. I mean it's just hinges, right? The art is in how you use the thing, not how long you left it in the dirt. Maybe it's just me but I've seen amazing work with brand new hardware and terrible work with old stuff. Idk if six months of waiting for rust is really the big secret.
