My 'vintage' ink buy turned into a $45 bottle of sludge
Found a cool looking bottle at a flea market, but it was totally separated and clogged my favorite pen for a week. Anyone know a safe way to salvage old ink, or is it always a gamble?

Remember my buddy who bought that old sheaffer ink? He tried to filter it and it still wrecked his nib. Maybe just keep the bottle for display.

Ever think that sludge is the ink's final form? Andrew_kelly is right about the gamble, but maybe the real vintage find was learning a hard lesson about your pen. At least you got a cool bottle for your next, less chunky, ink.

Feel like that's just part of the hobby sometimes. You're buying a chemical that's been sitting for decades. What did you expect it to do? I've had some luck filtering gunk through a coffee filter, but you're never getting that fresh ink performance back. It's always going to be a gamble, and a pen clog is the price of admission. Maybe just keep the cool bottle and put some new ink in it.
