Vent: My foreman told me to ignore the new crucible's pre-heat time

He said the specs were 'too cautious' and we could cut 15 minutes off the cycle. The pour was cold, and we had to scrap a whole batch of 356 aluminum. Anyone else had a boss push back on manufacturer steps lately?

Was he trying to save time or just burn money? Cutting a pre-heat is asking for trouble, and a scrapped batch proves it. That kind of shortcut thinking ends up costing way more in material and labor. Honestly, I'd be showing him the scrap ticket and the spec sheet side by side next time he suggests it.

Totally reminds me of a guy on our line who kept skipping the cool-down cycle on the press. Said it added twenty minutes to the job. Well, after the third time the die cracked from thermal shock, management made him sit through a cost breakdown meeting. The new die was like five figures, plus all the lost production time. He doesn't skip steps anymore.

Honestly, it's a safety thing people forget. A cold crucible is a stressed crucible, and that's how you get a nasty failure. He's not just risking metal, he's risking the whole shop floor.
