Hot take: Burping your ferments twice a day is overkill unless you're using sugar-heavy fruit

I kept getting mold on my hot sauce ferments until I switched to burping once every 3 days and stopped obsessing over the lid - the airlock really handles most of it, and I haven't lost a batch in 4 months now - anyone else find burping too much does more harm than good?

Burping once every 3 days"?? Wait, you mean I've been popping my ferments TWICE a day for nothing? That explains why my last batch of mango habanero went fuzzy after all that air exposure.

Twice a day? You've been treating that jar like it needs CPR. I'm surprised it didn't grow legs and walk away with all that air you kept letting in. Hopefully the next batch of mango habanero turns out better, just gotta trust the process a little more.
