Remember when a simple typo could cost you a million dollars?

Yeah, "standard contract catch" is putting it nicely. My last one was so bad I almost agreed to pay for the office coffee for a decade. Had the number right but the unit wrong, like promising a yearly fee per month. My boss just stared at the red line and said "Henry, did you buy the beans too?

Question about the trail to Lake Serene in Washington

Honestly that spot is way better than people say. I camped there after two days of rain last May and the ground was firm. The trick is to pick a site near the big pine tree where the roots drain the water. My cheap tent footprint worked fine, didn't even get damp. Charlie's trench thing sounds like he just set up in the wrong low spot.

Got a nasty shock from a 'dead' panel in an old Philly row house

Forty-eight volts sounds spooky, but is that even enough to get a real bite? Those non-contact testers are basically ghosts themselves, always chirping at phantom voltage. Grabbing the meter was the right call, but sometimes you just get weird induction or leftover static in old wiring. It's good you fixed it, but I'd bet money you weren't in any real danger from that level.

I was reading a 1950s cookbook and found out they used to proof yeast in sugar water for a full hour

Oh man, that reminds me of my mom's old meatloaf recipe. It had you soak bread in milk for like 45 minutes before you even mixed it with the meat. I tried it once and it just made a soggy mess. I mean, maybe the ingredients were different back then or something. I just use breadcrumbs now and it's fine.

Remember that old parts supplier on 5th Street that closed down?

Yeah, that scavenger hunt line is dead on. Feels like you need a guidebook just to find basic info online anymore.
