Heard a guy at the farmers market say you must use glass weights for sauerkraut
I was picking up some cabbage in Portland yesterday and overheard a vendor telling a customer that using anything but glass fermentation weights was asking for mold. I've used the ziplock bag method for years without a single bad batch. It made me think the gear sometimes matters less than keeping everything clean and submerged. What's your go-to weight, or do you skip them too?

Oh totally! I've used clean rocks from my garden for a decade and it's ALWAYS fine.

Right? People act like you need to buy everything. If the rocks are clean and safe, why spend extra money? It's worked for me too.

My uncle's old aquarium had creek stones he boiled for hours. The fish lived longer than any store-bought setup I've seen. Sometimes the simple way is just smarter.
