I usually crank mine up to 400F and I'm wondering if I'm missing out on better taste or just being too impatient for clouds, has anyone tested this side by side?

Switched from password manager to a physical notebook for my most sensitive logins

Used to keep everything in Bitwarden until a coworker got phished through a browser extension backdoor last March. Now I write my banking and email passwords in a pocket notebook I keep in a locked drawer at home. Has anyone else gone analog for high-risk accounts?

Heard a guy at the nursery say he waters his succulents with ice cubes, tried it on my jade plant for 3 weeks

I was at Armstrong Garden Center last Saturday picking up some perlite and overheard this older dude telling his wife to use ice cubes so they don't overwater. Thought he was nuts but my jade plant has been looking sad so I gave it a shot. Put two ice cubes on the soil every Sunday for 3 weeks and the leaves are plumping back up, no rot or anything. I think the slow melt stops the soil from getting soaked all at once. Has anyone else tried this trick or am I risking root damage long term?

That old repairman in Philadelphia who fixed my granddad's Leica

I was in Philly for a delivery run about 3 years back and stopped into this tiny shop off Market Street. Guy must have been in his 80s, and he pointed at my camera bag and said 'that thing's got a sticky aperture blade, I can tell from how you hold it.' He was right, it was hanging open just a hair. He showed me how to clean it with a single drop of lighter fluid and a toothpick, no special tools. Has anyone else had an old timer teach you a fix that totally bypassed modern methods?

Hot take: mobile check deposit killed the neighborhood bank branch for me

I remember back in 2019 I used to drive 15 minutes to my local bank every Friday to deposit checks from my tree service clients. Now I just snap a photo on my phone and it's done in 30 seconds. The difference is night and day over just 6 years. But everyone seems to think this is a bad thing for banking, like we're losing personal service. I actually prefer the convenience, even if I don't chat with a teller anymore. Has anyone else found they save more time than they lost with the old way?

Accidentally built a terrarium that rained on my desk at work

Ngl I was trying to show off my new closed terrarium setup in the breakroom at my office in Austin. I had this cool jar with a tight lid and I sealed it up real good. Then about 20 minutes later condensation started dripping down the sides like crazy and it pooled up under the jar. When I picked it up to move it a whole puddle of water spilled onto my keyboard and my coworker's notes. Boss walked in right as I was dabbing it up with napkins. I had to redo the whole drainage layer and use way less water this time. Anyone else ever overwater a closed terrarium and flood their workspace?

I used to roll my eyes at paleo diet people claiming ancient grains were better

Then I actually read a 2021 study on dental calculus from a Neolithic site in Turkey. They found that early farmers had way fewer cavities than us despite eating mostly wheat. Turns out it wasn't the grain itself, it was that they ground it coarsely and didn't add sugar. Now I kinda get why my dentist bugs me about white bread. Has anyone else changed their mind about a food myth after seeing actual archeology evidence?
