Vent: I kept seeing people skip the primer coat on fresh drywall
My neighbor in Omaha told me he just paints right over new drywall mud to save a day, and his walls looked blotchy after a year. I tested a small patch in my garage, painting one half with primer first and the other half without, and the primed side looks way more even after three months. How many coats of primer do you guys actually use on a fresh repair?

Yeah, that blotchy look is exactly why I never skip it. I did my basement without primer once and the paint just soaked in weird, like it was thirsty. Now I do two thin coats of a good drywall primer, sanding lightly in between. It feels like extra work but it's the only way to get a finish that lasts.

Totally agree, primer makes all the difference! I learned that lesson the hard way on a bathroom remodel.
