Hardware stores really are the worst for that, like they're trying to test our patience on purpose. @the_vera, you mentioned the labels were printed on weird sticky paper that curled up - did you ever complain to the manager, or did it feel like a lost cause? I'm curious if they bother fixing it when customers speak up, or if it's just the same mess week after week.

Can I just say I feel personally attacked? I spent ten minutes staring at a label last week trying to figure out if I was buying "fine grit" sandpaper or "finer" grit sandpaper because the font was so tiny and smudged. My eyes aren't what they used to be, and honestly neither is my patience. In my experience, bad shelf labels cost me way more time than they save the store. I almost walked out with a box of 1/4 inch nails when I needed 2 inch ones, all because the label was printed on some weird sticky paper that curled up at the edges. Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy, but I swear hardware stores are the worst offenders for this kind of thing.
