I was reading an old plumbing code book from the 70s and found out they used to allow lead solder on drinking water lines.
I mean, I knew about lead pipes, but seeing it in print that they were actively telling people to use a 50/50 tin-lead mix for joints that carry water you drink just blew my mind, and now I'm double-checking every fitting in my 1978 house.

My 1970s toaster still has an asbestos warning label.

Check out old appliance forums, sam_anderson, they helped me figure out my weird oven wiring. I mean, you can find manuals and safety tips pretty easy there. It's wild what they used to put in stuff back then.

Wow, @sam_anderson, that's a scary warning label.
