My dad said my 680 score was 'actually pretty solid for a 24-year-old' and it made me feel way better.

My first apartment application got denied with a 620 score. Landlord said try again in six months. Felt like a huge failure at the time. Your dad's right, a 680 gives you way more options. That number opens doors you don't even see yet. It's a good place to build from.

Disagree completely with that take. Landlords fixate too much on a single number and ignore real life situations. A 620 with steady income and good references should be just fine for most places.

Wait, your dad actually said a 680 score opens doors you don't even see yet? That's wild to me... my older brother literally just got approved for a place with a 640 score and the landlord was thrilled because he had pay stubs from the same job for three years. I feel like some landlords treat credit scores like they're the only thing that matters and forget people have bills and life happening. A 620 with steady income and good references should be totally fine for most normal apartments, not just some backup option.
