Tried a new way to mix custom color for a client's stubborn gray coverage
I had a client with really resistant gray hair who wanted a level 5 brown. I was deciding between using a 20 volume developer for more lift or a 10 volume for gentler deposit. I went with the 20 volume, mixed with a demi-permanent color, and processed it for 35 minutes instead of the usual 30. The coverage was perfect and the tone came out exactly right, no brassiness at all. Has anyone else had better luck with a higher volume on resistant grays, or do you stick with lower?

Honestly, my first attempt on a client like that was a disaster. I was so scared of damage I used a 10 volume and it barely took. The gray just peeked through like a polite but stubborn ghost. I looked more prepared for a Halloween party than a color correction. Now I just go with the 20 volume, it gets the job done without the weird, patchy fade.

Respectfully, @kim.emma, but 20 volume still feels risky on that stubborn gray.
