A client asked me to 'fix' her perfectly good balayage with box dye

She brought in a box of drugstore color, pointed at her professionally done highlights, and said 'I want it all one solid shade like this.' I had to explain for ten minutes why covering a $300 service with a $9 product was a terrible idea. Has anyone else had a client try to undo good work with something from the grocery store aisle?

Honestly saw a whole video about this exact thing, how box dye can literally melt hair that's been lightened. @jessicab33 is totally right about the value thing, but it's also a safety issue, you know? Like, do people not understand the chemicals in that box are made for virgin hair only? Trying to cover a balayage with that is asking for a disaster.

My cousin's friend tried to cover her highlights with a box dye last month. Her hair got so gummy and weak, she had to cut off like four inches.

It's like asking a chef to microwave a TV dinner over their steak! Some people just can't see the value.
