Tried using a magnet to find a broken wire in a Maytag washer motor and it actually worked
The motor was shorting intermittently, and a small fridge magnet stuck right where the insulation was rubbed through on a lead. Anyone else have a weird trick for finding shorts?

My Maytag's only magnetic attraction was to my wallet for repairs.

That's a solid burn... but how many times did it actually break down? Seems like some brands are just built to fail these days.
