inAm I the only beginner who thinks too many tutorials skip the boring parts?
That hits close to home because I once spent two hours trying to follow a "simple" guitar tutorial and then realized the guy had a capo on the fifth fret the whole time without mentioning it. I felt like such a fool staring at my fingers not making the right sounds. Its like the people making these things forget what it felt like to be a beginner and just skip the stuff that actually matters. I bet half of those course creators would fail their own tutorials if they had to start from scratch tomorrow.

inHot take: I used to hate refurbished drives until a client changed my view
@jade271 I read that same study actually, pretty sure it was from Backblaze or someone who runs a ton of drives. They had refurb failure rates under 2% but the catch was they tested them before putting them in service. The cheap ones your average guy buys on Amazon don't get any testing, so you're rolling the dice. I've seen those refurbs fail too, had one die on a client's machine after three months and they were not happy. The real trick seems to be buying from sellers who actually run a stress test first, not just wiping them and throwing them in a box.

inTried calibrating an altimeter with a known bad test set just to see what would happen
Nah that sounds like overkill, @the_miles' buddy could've just said the set was unverified.

inHad to choose between the stair climber dolly or hand carrying a 400lb traction machine up 3 floors
Dolly's great until it isn't... that tile crack was probably loud enough to wake the dead. Next time I'd just grab a buddy and go old school, splitting the weight makes all the difference.

inChanged my mind about slice-of-life anime after watching Super Cub
Yeah man Super Cub was the exact same thing for me. I went in thinking it would be boring but something about watching her slowly build confidence with that little bike just hooked me. There's a scene where she's sitting by the lake and it's just quiet for a solid minute and I realized I was more invested in that moment than most action scenes I've seen. The show made me stop and appreciate small stuff I usually ignore.
