Looking through an old trade magazine from 2005 and the ad prices for a basic panel were wild

Found a copy of 'Security Dealer' in a box and a basic 8-zone hardwired panel was advertised for over $800. Makes you appreciate how much more accessible the gear is now, even with all the new tech to learn. Anyone else come across old catalogs that made you do a double take?

That $800 panel probably lasted 20 years.

Yeah, that "lasted 20 years" line is spot on, @seanh91. My buddy had an old furnace panel go out, and the repair guy said the same thing. He just shrugged and said they really don't make them like that anymore.

Ugh, tell me about it. My old water heater panel finally quit last year after 22 years. I just bit the bullet and got the new one installed, but the guy said to expect maybe 12-15 years out of this one if I'm lucky.
