Hot take: people overthink pet costumes way too much

I tried making my cat a little shark fin last Halloween using just felt and some craft glue. It lasted about 30 seconds before she freaked out and hid under the couch in my garage in Austin. Honest question, why does everyone think their pet needs some elaborate outfit when a simple bandana costs like 3 bucks and keeps everyone happy?

Ripped a chunk out of my drywall using a plastic toggle bolt anchor

I used those cheap plastic toggle anchors to hang a heavy mirror in my hallway and the whole thing pulled out after 3 days, taking a golf ball sized piece of wall with it. Stick with metal toggle bolts if you're hanging anything heavier than a picture frame, has anyone else had these plastic ones fail on them?

Why I miss the old way of learning a trade

I started in pest control back in 1998 with a guy named Frank who taught me everything hands on. We spent six months riding together, and he showed me how to bait for roaches in an apartment building in Newark. Today, new hires watch videos on a tablet for two days and then get sent out alone. Has anyone else noticed mentorship getting replaced by online training?

Found a hack for aligning shutter curtains using just a phone flashlight

I was working on this old Pentax spotmatic and the second curtain was dragging bad. Couldn't get the alignment right with my regular light setup. Tried using my iPhone flashlight aimed at a 45 degree angle through the lens mount and it lit up the curtain edges perfectly. Saw the gap instantly and fixed it in like 10 minutes. Has anyone else tried weird phone tricks for repairs?

After driving 4 hours to Shenandoah last weekend, my $25 foam pad delaminated by 11 PM and I spent the rest of the night on cold dirt - anyone have a budget option that actually holds up for more than one trip?

Found out my old grinder was 12 years past its prime

I was reading a thread on Home-Barista where someone said burrs wear out after about 500 pounds of coffee. I checked my notes and realized I'd put over 700 pounds through my old Mazzer Mini since I got it in 2009. That explained why my shots were always bitter no matter what I did. Anyone else ever run their grinder way too long before swapping parts?

Finally caught the Orion Nebula after 3 cloudy weeks in a row

Last Tuesday the skies finally cleared up around 11pm and I managed to get a solid 45 minute exposure stack before the moon rose. Has anyone else dealt with losing like a month of imaging time to weather?
