Oh man, I feel that. But honestly, if it's a nonstick pan that's flaking, you gotta toss it. The coating can chip off into your food, and that stuff isn't good for you. A scratched up pan is more than just a kitchen battle scar.

Honestly that's wild because my basil loved a heavy dose of grounds last year. Maybe it depends on the soil you started with? Mine was pretty worn out and the grounds gave it a real kick. Tbh I've found some plants just react differently, like my rosemary hated it but the tomatoes went crazy. Could be your basil was already getting enough food and the extra was just too much.
