My dad tried to describe a cabernet like it was motor oil

I mean, we were at a family dinner and opened a cabernet. My dad, who's more of a beer guy, took a sip and was like, 'This tastes like thick motor oil, but with cherries?' My mom totally lost it laughing, and my sister jumped in saying it was more leathery. Idk, now it's a running joke whenever we have red wine.

My friend Tom called a merlot wet newspaper with berries.

But you know, some people actually like that, @avery921.

Has Tom only had cheap grocery store merlot? That wet newspaper thing is such a simple way to describe it. A good one from a proper winery tastes like plums or black cherries, not soggy paper. It's an unfair label that stuck because of a movie and some bad mass-produced bottles.
