I was testing phone cameras wrong for a long time

I always took my sample photos in my bright kitchen, thinking that was the best test. Then I saw a review from a guy in Seattle who took all his test shots in a dimly lit bar. It hit me that I was only showing the best-case scenario. Now I make sure to test in at least three different light settings, from bright sun to a dark room. Has anyone else found a simple test step they were missing?

My old test shots were all just blue sky.
