Actually, my router was doing something similar last month. The manual said to keep all the fancy channel-hopping features on for the best speed. Every forum post from actual users said to turn that junk off to stop the random drops. Went with the forum advice and it's been solid ever since. Sometimes the people using the thing day-to-day just know better than the engineers who built it.

Spot the same thing with so many gadgets and apps these days. Companies build in these "smart" features that look good on paper but just break the normal use. You end up having to dig through forums to find the one setting to turn off so the thing actually works like it should. Makes you wonder if the engineers ever just use the stuff like a normal person would.

My old laptop had a "smart" battery saver that was a total mess until I turned it off.
