Seen a shop charge 3x for a cabin filter swap

Lol "labor to access it" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. On most cars it's literally two clips and a pull, not some engine-out situation. The real variable is if it's behind the glovebox, which adds maybe 10 minutes and some cursing, but still not 90 bucks. I've done this in a parking lot with a screwdriver and a bad back. They're charging for the convenience of not getting their hands dirty, not the actual time.

That $180 torque wrench set saved my butt on a GE washer job

My buddy Mike had the same thing happen with his old click-type wrench on a Maytag dryer drum. It read 80 ft-lbs but when he double-checked it with a beam style, it was actually cranking out like 105. He blamed that dryer's noisy bear

Saw a guy at my local game shop use a tackle box for miniatures

Hell yeah dude, I've been using a plano tackle box for my warhammer stuff for like two years now. The little compartments are perfect for holding dice, bits, and paints without them rolling all over the place.

I used to dump canned veggies straight into the pot, but a coworker changed my mind

Huh, is it really that big of a deal?

A retired professor at the Mesa Verde dig site told me I was digging too fast back in 2018

Reminds me of when I was a kid on a church dig in New Mexico. Old guy with a handlebar mustache told me I was sifting dirt like I was panning for gold, he showed me how to feather the screen to keep the fragile stuff intact. Never forgot that lesson, makes me wonder how many sites got torn up by well meaning volunteers before someone spoke up.
