My accountant in Austin said my 'business emergency fund' should be six months of bills, not three, and it hit different hearing it from her.

I was telling her how a client ghosted on a $5,000 project last quarter and she just looked at my spreadsheet and said, 'With your overhead, three months is just a bad week, you need a runway for a real drought.'

Yeah, that "bad week" line would have made me sweat. My old accountant used to just nod and smile, which was way less scary. Now I'm looking at my own sad little savings tab and feeling very called out. When did we all agree that six months is the new normal?

Started with a tiny auto-transfer from each paycheck, like the cost of a fancy coffee. It felt pointless until a year later when I had a real buffer. @mia_lee, that's basically how I funded my cat's dental work, ten bucks at a time. The six-month thing seems impossible until you stop looking at the total and just focus on the next transfer.

My vet said the same thing about my dog's surgery fund.
