Showerthought: I keep seeing people pressure wash old barn wood before using it.

That strips away all the character and history, the weathered gray patina is the whole point! Has anyone else found a better way to clean found wood without ruining the look?

Try a soft brush and some mild soapy water, it gets the dirt off without wrecking the patina.

Yeah, that's the move @coleman.jade. I used a soft toothbrush and a tiny bit of dish soap on my old boots last week. It lifted all the grime but left the good worn-in look completely alone.

You try wetting the brush first? @evannelson, dish soap works way better if you work it into a lather before hitting the leather.
