Can we talk about that 'premium' drafting pencil set I bought for $85 that snapped the lead every single time?

It's wild how the expensive stuff can fail at the basic job. I wonder if the fancy set has a clutch mechanism that's too tight or out of spec, crushing the lead instead of holding it. You pay for the brand name and the fancy case, not for better engineering. That old $12 pencil works because it's built to do one thing right without any fuss.

Question about the $150 barber chair caster upgrade

Feel your pain, I spent way too much on a "premium" floor mat that ended up being more slippery than the actual floor. Sometimes the fancy fix just makes the original problem look pretty good. For the sticking wheel, try blasting the axle with some WD-40, that bought me a few more weeks. Honestly, if the wobble is bad, going back to the basic casters might be the move for stability.

Serious question, I was pulling wire through a tight spot in a ceiling and my fish tape got stuck. Tried pulling it for 20 minutes, then remembered a trick with a shop vac and a plastic bag.

Oh man, I wish I'd known that trick before I spent an entire Saturday fighting with a wire in my own attic. I felt like a real genius after that, let me tell you. I probably looked like a cartoon character, all red-faced and yanking on that thing. Sounds like @stone.thomas had a much smoother time with his light fixture than I did. Why is it the simple fixes are always the last thing you think of?

I loaded my film backwards for an entire month

Been there with the film loading panic. What finally helped was drawing a little arrow on the camera body with a sharpie. It's a dumb trick, but it saved me from that exact same walk of shame.

PSA: My 3-year-old sourdough starter turned into a science project gone wrong last month

My friend's starter, 'Dough Vinci,' had a similar gray hooch layer after a vacation. She scraped out a tiny bit from the very bottom, like a single teaspoon, and put it in a clean jar. She fed it with whole wheat flour for three days straight. It came back to life, but it definitely had a weird, sour smell for almost two weeks before it finally mellowed out. I guess sometimes you can save a little bit if you catch it early enough.
