My truck bed storage bin project turned into a rust nightmare
I built wooden bins for my F-250 bed to organize gear. Chose untreated wood to save cash. A big rain left water sitting and now the bed liner has rust spots. Spent all weekend cleaning it up. Be careful with what you put in your truck bed.

Untreated wood and a truck bed is a surefire way to grow rust. Bet that cleanup was more fun than building the bins.

So how long before the rust starts? Untreated wood soaks up water and keeps it on the bed, right? I knew a guy who left plywood in his truck for a summer and found orange spots all over. What do you use to clean that without making it worse? Do you sand the whole thing or just fix the spots? Seems like way more trouble than just treating the wood first.

My uncle did that with his old Ford, and the rust spread so fast he ended up having to replace the whole bed.
