Showerthought: My plumber buddy said he'd rather install a toilet than a floating floor
He said 'at least the toilet bolts down to something solid,' and it made me realize how much we're just fighting deflection and hoping for the best. Anyone else ever feel like you're installing on a trampoline?

Yeah exactly. Did a whole basement once where the floor felt like a sponge. We put down that foam underlayment, clicked everything tight, looked perfect. Week later the owner calls saying it squeaks when his kids run across it. Nothing to grab onto, just floating over a tiny bit of give. Makes you feel like you're building on sand.

Honestly that whole trampoline feeling is real though. Maybe @maxm50 is right about prep work, but sometimes the floor joists themselves have too much bounce. You can have perfect plywood and underlayment and still feel movement if the house frame isn't stiff. Makes you wonder how much solid contact there ever really is.

That floating floor feeling is just bad prep work. A proper subfloor with the right underlayment doesn't move at all. Maybe your buddy just hates working with the click lock systems.
