Pro tip: I was wrong about using a regular chalk line on dark hardwood

For years I just used the standard blue chalk on everything, even dark walnut or ebony stains. Last month on a big herringbone job with espresso-stained oak, the client pointed out faint blue lines I couldn't get up after the fact. I switched to a white chalk line reel for the rest of the install, and the difference was night and day. The white chalk brushed right off the dark surface with a dry microfiber cloth, no residue. It cost maybe five bucks more for the refill. Has anyone found a specific brand of white chalk that doesn't clump as bad in humid weather?

Learned that the hard way on a mahogany floor last summer.

Yeah, @terrymitchell, that kind of wood is so unforgiving. My friend has a place with mahogany trim and even a tiny scratch from moving a chair looks like a canyon. You basically need a whole refinishing kit to fix it, not just a quick touch-up.

Wait, you have mahogany floors? That's wild, I've only ever seen those in old movies. Must have been a really expensive lesson to learn.
