I was convinced a 3/4-inch expansion gap was overkill for that 800-square-foot engineered job in a dry climate, but the homeowner's radiant heat system proved me wrong after the first seasonal change.
What's the biggest factor you all consider when deciding on gap size beyond just the square footage?

Moisture content in the subfloor is a HUGE wild card for me.

Actually, it's not a wild card if you test it with a good meter.

Fancy meters seem like magic to me until I realize I left it on the wrong setting and spent an hour chasing a ghost voltage lol. At least the wild card keeps things exciting, or maybe I'm just trying to justify my own incompetence. Either way, moisture in subfloors sounds like a nightmare I'd rather leave to someone braver than me.
