That time I tried to fix a Game Gear with a heat gun

I was in my basement last Saturday trying to fix a Sega Game Gear that would only show a white screen. Turned out the ribbon cable was shot and my heat gun reflow just melted a capacitor onto the board, killing it for good. Anyone else ever make a simple fix way worse by using too much heat?

Wait, you melted a capacitor onto the board? That's brutal. I'm surprised the whole thing didn't catch fire.

Pretty sure caps don't catch fire unless you short the polarity.
